Career checklist
I am studying the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology which will provide me with the skills and knowledge to progress in the media sector. The course lasts two years and will help me develop a portfolio of work that will be useful for when I leave the college and want to get into university or simply to show off to attract clients.
My hobbies and interests could be a key factor in what type of work I will want to be doing. Personally, I have a passion for many hobbies, which could leave a bigger door open for the future if I decide I want to explore different kinds of jobs. My hobbies include filmmaking, photography, watching films, music, football and fashion. Having these hobbies could for example lead me to be a fashion photographer, work for a professional football clubs media team or direct short and potentially feature films or even work for an advertising agency.
I currently live in Mynyddcerrig but would prefer to travel and live-in bigger cities and other parts of the world. This would benefit me financially I believe as there is more money in these areas as well as more work. However, with all this said there will be more competition, so it’s important that I continue to develop and keep up with trends and continuously progress. Living in Mynyddcerrig does give me potential options for the future however as it’s a lovely and quiet area where I could settle down with my family and get a job as a teacher or even just work with local businesses with less stress. I have no current responsibilities with no girlfriend or children, so I would be happy enough to leave the town and show some ambition.
Currently I am adapting going from working full time to college, to peruse a career in the media industry, which I believe is a good decision as I’m now able to learn and further develop skills while also meeting people which I could potentially work with in the future. I also believe that I must keep my options open for the future, now though I believe that going to University could potentially open more doors in the future with a degree in film and it could be a great opportunity to meet people and make some valuable contacts. My passion lies more on the film side of things opposed to games and animation. Based on my strengths and weaknesses this is also a suitable pathway for me as my strengths are using a camera and producing creative ideas compared to my illustration skills which are much weaker, but I can still improve on them if I want to achieve success by being versatile and adapting to the industry. Im feel that my confidence is increasing with each project that I’m completing during the course and I have a sense of optimism about these choices and making these decisions.
By creating a career plan I want to create a list of realistic career options and that’s why I have chosen to go through the route of using cameras and film as those are my strengths and I would see it as a realistic target. To enter this career area I will need to constantly creating and building my portfolio to the best that I possibly can.
For the future my dream job would be a director of photography as its what I am passionate about and the process of it. The type of work that I’d like to do varies, as I have many passions that intertwine with filmmaking if its making music videos, directing short films, advertising sports, fashion or cars.
When it comes to my career I would love to work on films either short or feature. I also like music videos as I have a huge passion for music and working with other creators could help me develop future skills as a filmmaker however I don’t have a specific organization that I would like to work for at the moment. In the future I would love to be a director and be the guy who can lead the vision of whatever I am making and be able to collaborate with other people as I have a decent amount of knowledge with cinematography and being the driving force behind a project and hopefully one day Ill be able to generate some serious money to be able to buy a lovely house and provide for my family.
